Final Fantasy VIII was the second PlayStation development in the Final Fantasy series and its release saw a major divide in the Squaresoft community. Some gamers loved this game, feeling it brought a fresh and inventive approach to the series, where hardcore Final Fantasy fans felt it was declining in quality from its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII.
The action takes place on a world split into three major continents. On each continent is a "Garden", where SeeD are trained. Squall Leonhart is a SeeD cadet at Balamb garden and, on the day of his field exam, his life takes a major twist into the unknown. The neighbouring Garden, Galbadia, has been liberated by The Sorceress and it is Squall's task to defeat The Sorceress. You take control of Squall and his elite team of SeeD to battle The Sorceress.
