Mission select is the main game system that'll be leading Yuna, Rikku and Paine into all kinds of new adventures. Yuna, Rikku and Paine- the Gullwings- is able to fly from one place to another using their airship the 'Celsius'. Each mission has it's own episode and it can differ the way the story flows. The key point of this system is that some missions allow the players themselves to select options which makes the game more flexible.

During missions, Yuna will find new connections and relations towards her story. These are called 'Active Links' which will open up the door to new missions and episodes in Spira. Players can create a story of their own by selecting different missions as they play through the game. Unlike Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2's predecessor, the players are able to visit the major places from the beinning of the game. Gathering information from these places and about future missions is as easy as choosing your location when on-board the Celsius, and clicking to fly there! Even if the place has no important information, it is still possible to go for a small walk and admire the places of Spira, the inhabitants, and friends of old.
